ILSAMP Program Information

The SIUC Illinois Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (ILSAMP) program funded by the National Science Foundation and is a member of the Illinois LSAMP Alliance headed by Chicago State University.  Principal Investigators: Dr. Karen Renzaglia, Associate Dean of the College of Science and Associate Professor in Plant Biology, and Dr. Julia Spears, Director, McNair Scholars Program and Saluki Research Rookies Program.

The Alliance is made up of eight comprehensive universities: Chicago State University, DePaul University, Illinois Institute of Technology, Northeastern University, University of Illinois-Chicago, Illinois State University, Southern Illinois University Carbondale, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville; one senior institution: Governors State University; nine community colleges: Richard J. Daley College, Olive-Harvey College, Harold Washington College, Wilbur Wright College, Kennedy-King College, Malcolm X College, Harry S. Truman College, South Suburban College, and St. Augustine College; and one federal laboratory: Argonne National Laboratory.

ILSAMP has the goal of increasing participation of undergraduates from underrepresented groups in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) disciplines. The ILSAMP is not intended to be a scholarship or fellowship program. Funding is available for 2009.

Eligibility:


For a student to be eligible s/he must:
•  Be enrolled at SIUC in a STEM major (see attached list for NSF-supported disciplines)
•  Have a cumulative GPA of 2.7
•  Be African-American, Hispanic American, Native American or Pacific Islander


Funds will be provided on a competitive basis for students to conduct research and attend professional meetings. Preference will be given to undergraduates who are interested in pursuing graduate work in STEM fields.
The SIUC ILSAMP program will also sponsor professional and academic enrichment activities throughout the academic year, and we will distribute information on these events as they are organized.

Please submit the following to apply:
1. Completed ILSAMP application form
2. Copy of current SIUC transcripts
3. Detailed description of proposed project
4. Detailed budget
5. Letter of support and completed Faculty Recommendation Form from your faculty sponsor, to be submitted in a signed and

    sealed envelope accompanying the application.
